Ganpati and Democracy

On this auspicious day of Ganesh chturthi my mind suddenly became intangled with the word GANPATI and my mind pondered and voila I found a new meaning to this concept of Ganpati.

So i start the narration that Gantantra is to be headed by Ganpati where the head of the state duty is to rule his ganas by laying down the nuisances of democracy i.e. a system which is for the ganas (people), by the ganas and of the ganas much before Abrahim Lincoln defined the word Democracy.

So whosoever assumes the seat of power and become the head of the people should have the following attributes-

1.Trinetra – The head of the state should have the power to access the situation much beyond what he sees with his 2 naked eyes. The third eyes symbolises a deep insight in understanding the situation and taking the best path to deal with the current situation which is based in the concept of common good. As Ganpati he will show no bias based on religion, caste, gender, economic criteria etc.

2. Massive Ears – Ganpati is adorned with huge ears meant to listen to the grievances of his common ganas and dispense justice accordingly where he is able to judge the situation without any prejudice.

3. Chandan on his forehead depicts coolness while taking decisions for his ganas which is in their best interest without prejudice. It becomes worth mentioning that while Indra was the ruler of Gods does not find any mention in today’s world since Indra was ruling for his self interest and had nothing to do with ganas so he is lost in oblivion.

4. Broken Tusk- Ganpati broken tusk speaks volumes about his character where he would not hesitate even for a second to make any sacrifice if it involves common good and his writ of goodness runs much beyond what is expected from him. He is not creating any facade but making real sacrifice.

5. Ganpati tusk symbolises that he would not shy away from penalizing those who become a menace for ruining the law and order in the society.

6. Stomach- Ganpati stomach is a symbol of prosperity which should exist in a state where there is enough resources for everyone and no one sleeps empty stomach .

7.Snake- The snake around the belly of Ganpati is there to protect the resources available where there is no spliggage and waste of available resources and each one gets their dues.

8. Mus-The mouse as his vehicle is symbol for the downtrodden and insignificant creature where he is the driver and the driving force.

9. Char bhuja – The four arms of Ganpati speaks in volume about the blessings and the bounty which will be delivered to the common man with a bowl of sweets in one hand and the posture where all are blessed irrespective of any differences. At the same time the ganas will be protected from all the onslaught from his axe whether it is social, political, economic, cultural or disease related in nature. The hand depicted with rope recalls the restraint in one’s own behavior and conduct.

10. Dancing Ganpati-To top it all the Ganpati dances depicting life full of fun and frolic making all the ganas happy.

So it is a clarion call to all the citizens of our country that all of us should pray that we receive Ganpati to steer our life, our society and our Nation and obtain Riddhi and Siddhi.
