Vijay Kumar Mehto alias Bikau.

He had always fascinated me since his childhood with his deep intense eyes which were so vocal despite the fact that he always preferred to remain silent. His dark complexion never failed to radiate his soulful smile. His short stature assumed him to become such an overwhelming personality which encompassed such a huge field that few can tread such a path.

When I got married “Bikau” was my obvious choice as a domestic help at Delhi. I stayed at Nanakpura in South Delhi which was a Govt. accommodation. On 21 January 1997, 3 boys forced entry into my house and they stabbed me brutally and the child I carried in my womb with the sole intension of annihilating my whole family .

Then they proceeded to attack my three and a half year son. But “Bikau” stood as an iron shield to protect the child and in this event the miscreants ripped the seventeen year old apart with a huge dagger turning my whole drawing room into blood red where the blood of the domestic help merged with that of his master pronouncing

“I am the protector of your family, and my blood will not go waste.”

He had the choice of running and escaping from the scene but he stood as Divine shield to protect the child.

This incident had gripped me so hard for the last two decades, I was unable to figure out as to what I should do to pay my tribute to the brave heart.  What he has done cannot be repaid. Dedicating my foundation in the name of Vijay is a small token to remember him always and help that section of society to which he belonged to.

In a city like Delhi where we often hear stories of Domestic help involved in heinous crimes like dacoity, Murder and rape, this young boy from a small village of Simri, in Bihar proved on the contrary repeating the story of Panna Dhai mentioned in History.

He sacrificed his life to save the son of his master with his Exceptional courage a rare trait to be found in the modern world.
